Staff, Elders & Deacons

Staff

Elders

Elders provide general watch, care, and spiritual oversight of the congregation.  This includes guarding the church against harmful influences, setting long term vision and strategic plans, evaluation of the church’s performance and commitment to our purpose and mission.  The elders pray regularly for the congregation and ministries, approve new ministry initiatives, and provide support and accountability to the pastoral staff.  Finally, they prepare the annual budget and nominate elder members for congregational vote at annual meetings.

Deacons

Deacons, too, have a crucial role in the life and the health of the local church, but their role is different from the Elders’. The biblical role of deacons is to take care of the physical and logistical needs of the church so that the elders can concentrate on their primary calling. Deacons serve the congregation in whatever practical needs mav arise. The main difference between an elder and a deacon is a difference of gifts and calling, not character.
